Our Disney Contemporary sticker is a love letter to the beginning of Walt Disney World.
“The Florida Project” — no, not the 2017 movie — was the code name the Disney company used during the developmental stages of Walt Disney World.
Walt and his colleagues were thinking big this time around, enough land to create a utopia undisturbed by cheap motels and other tourist traps. Essentially, their new Florida Project would absolutely dwarf Disneyland.
Of course, hotels were always an integral part of the Walt Disney World equation, and when Magic Kingdom opened in October 1971, there were two resorts on the park’s monorail circuit: the Polynesian and the Contemporary.
What Is Disney's Contemporary Resort?
A staple of the Magic Kingdom experience, the Contemporary’s unique A-frame design is viewable by monorail and ferry as you approach the gates of The Most Magical Place on Earth. And decades after it was built, it’s still a marvel to watch the monorail trailing through the building, carting guests to and from parks and other Walt Disney World experiences.
The Contemporary is also one of the most luxurious hotels on Disney property — and doesn’t every deluxe-tier resort warrant its own sticker? We thought so, and our homage to ‘70s Disney architecture shows the iconic resort on a peaceful night.
